Gave this as a gift to my brother in law for his engagement and he seemed to be really impressed by it and really like it.
I did a lot of comparisons when looking for a knife set to purchase at this price range. While I _personally_ would have preferred a smaller set of better knives (say Shuns), it seems that most people prefer a more complete set - go figure. That being the case, as I looked around on Amazon, I didn't find many knife sets at this price range that didn't have "gaps" between the block and the knives; most sets had a block that had empty slots. I also liked the more contemporary and modern lines of the knives.
As for the performance and ergonomics? I can't say - yet. But MOST people also aren't knife nuts like me and a set like this would perform as well or better than their daily use, stamped steel knives. The important thing is that your average 20-something venturing out on their own will really love this knife set for their home or apartment.
