Buy Cheap Cuisinart Ultra Edge 7-Piece Stainless-Steel Knife Set in Black Hardwood Block

Buy Low Price From Here Now

These knives are as adept at cutting as they are attractive and can set up a mod kitchen to be functional as well as stylish. The set includes an 8-inch chef’s knife--which works equally as well for slicing paper-thin rounds of carrots as it does for chopping a huge butternut squash into chunks; an 8-inch slicer for carving poultry or meat; a 5-inch chef’s/utility knife for smaller tasks--such as mincing garlic or ginger; and a 3-1/2-inch parer for peeling fruits or halving grapes. All knives fit into a hardwood block with modern stainless-steel accents along with a coarse-grit 9-inch sharpening steel for keeping knife edges honed and a pair of 8-inch shears for cutting up a chicken or opening food packaging.

These Ultra Edge knives have heavy-gauge precision taper-ground blades for precise slicing and chopping. They are constructed of high-carbon Molybdenum steel, a material with a Rockwell hardness of 56. It maintains a knife’s razor-sharp edge longer before requiring professional sharpening. A high chromium content in these knives provides the highest level of protection from rusting, staining, and corrosion. Handles are made of 18/8 stainless steel with a slip-proof satin finish, and are ergonomically-designed for a comfortable grip. Hollow handles also make the knives extremely lightweight--which Cuisinart touts provides better control and balance. However, chefs who are used to a more weighted handle may find that the knives feel a bit less substantial in the hand. Cuisinart cutlery is guaranteed under a lifetime warranty. --Cristina VaamondeWhat’s in the Box

"excellent knife, but it broke when chopping garlic!" 2006-12-12
By Nomadic IT Consultant
This is true to my title. I love the Cuisinart knifes, I bought this set as it was on a sale and loved it! But unfortunately, sharp as they come, they are not strong. I was chopping garlic one days and the knife just broke into half. Worse, I've sent the knife for a replacement and it's been over a month, I have yet to receive the replacement!!

I am giving 2/5 because an unreliable knife and bad customer service doesn't make anything sharp worth it's money.

 "Lightweight and sharp" 2006-07-27
By LP (Santa Clara, CA USA)
I purchased this set because I want a nice set that had the minimum basics at a fair price. I find that these knives are very light which is a little awkward for my preference, but I'm not a professional chef. I also found it scary to use, because they are extremely sharp. I was a little disappointed to find that there was an extra slot which made the set appear incomplete. I purchased an extra utility knife to fix that- but that was added cost that I didn't expect after paying for the set. My guest have all commented how SHARP these knives are when they use them. All in all, these knives do the job for me and I've had them for about a year and haven't had any problems. I would recommend to purchase these if you are looking for a very sharp set.

I don't know how Cuisnart can say these knives retail for $200.00.

They looked and felt cheap. I returned them without using. I felt they were hyped beyond what they really were.

I like this very much. I do not need too many knives which is the case with most knife sets. The knifes feel good in hand and good to cut with. I really like the look of this set. Only complaint is one slot of the holder is left empty. They should have filled that too for a complate look.

I research everything before I buy and love to find a great value.

That's what these are: big bang-for-the-buck.

Cooking is a passion for me so I have no problem with hand-washing my tools. I even braved the sharpener and found that it works very well and is easier than I anticipated.

 "Good knives." 2008-08-26
By vocalease (California)
These are attractive, solid knives that are well balanced and come with a well made storage block, but you must have a good sharpener for them to cut well. The sharpening steel that comes with the set does not work well, so I purchased the Accusharp for $10 from Amazon and it's made all the difference. If you purchase this knife set buy the sharpener for an extra $10. It's well worth the investment for knives that will last a lifetime if cared for properly.

 "A nice set!" 2007-02-13
By F. Frost (Colorado Springs, CO United States)
I received this set today and immediately 'tested' them on every piece of food in the kitchen! They are lovely! I was prepared for the absence of the bread knife after having read the other reviews, so I wasn't too disappointed.(Although that would be a real bonus to have actually included it in the set.) I also miss having instructions for the 8" 'stone'. Very nice to have but what do you do with it? I remember the males in my family having to develop this skill and that one could ruin a knife by doing it wrong. So I'll scout around for instructions and hope they show up before the knives need sharpening. Other than that they are a pleasure and terrific at this price! I'm glad to have them.

I have owned this set for 5 years now. I have never had any problems. No rust, no stains, no chips and when they get dull, a quick swipe with the sharpening steel sharpens them right back up!! I am telling you, I used to sell Henckels knives and personally I think Henckels is over-rated! Buy these knives, you wont be disappointed!!

 "blades very thin" 2008-02-13
By N. Armstrong (Orinda, CA USA)
The handles on these knives are very comfortable, and the non-serrated blades make a nice, clean slice. Unfortunately, the blades are very thin, and, in fact, the packages that I received had multiple broken knives upon arrival. (Amazon did immediately replace the broken ones.) I have found that I have to baby these knives while cleaning and storing since it is very easy to bend the tips. Too bad, because otherwise they would be perfect.

 "Bait and switch" 2005-12-07
By Richard Carlson (Orlando, FL)
Metro Kitchen sent me a MUCH cheaper set than the item pictured here. The blades we not forged, instead they were thin stamped metal (rather than widening at the base of the handle), and the blade did not even go completely through the handle. They did send me a "Gourmet Steak Block Set", however the picture they user on Amazon is not the same set, and is therefore completely misleading as to the quality. They unapologetically offered to take the item back if I PAID THE RETURN SHIPPING! I have obviously contacted my credit card company....

Your choice, but I woul NOT do business with Metro Kitchen if I were you.

 "Good Value Steak Knives" 2004-12-17
By D. Huddleston (From the Kitchen - USA)
Treat these knives as you would your best Wustoff and you'll be rewarded. If you store these in a wooden block or case, ocassionally run the blades against the sharpening steel and hand wash and immediately dry the blades, they'll stay sharp and last for years.

If you want your cutlery to last and perform, NEVER, EVER put your knives in the dishwasher. Regardless of the price, top notch knives are not designed to be washed in a dishwasher, period. Don't be a lazy bum!

 "8/12 HANDLES BROKEN" 2004-08-16
By E. ESCOBAR (Houston, Tx)
I purchased two sets of these knives for x-mas 2002. Within 3 months 6 out of twelve knives had cracks on the handles in the same place, by now 8/12 have cracks in the handles. We wash them in the dishwasher along with our other Wusthof knives and the other more expensive Wusthof knives have never had a problen. Also when washing these in the dishwasher the steak knives get rust stains on them that we have to polish by hand. I have been very dissapointed with the quality of these steak knives and will try to contact the company about the warranty.

The Gourmet 7-piece block set includes a 3-inch parer, 4-1/2-inch utility knife, 8-inch cooks knife, kitchen shears, 9-inch sharpening steel and a 9 slot storage block. Typical stamped knives are punched out like a cookie cutter. Wusthof Gourmet knives are laser cut. This intricate manufacturing process is superior to other -inch cookie cutter-inch methods as it is more precise and leaves the knives with less distortion. The Gourmet knives use the same steel that is used in our other more expensive knives. Wusthof uses a special blend of German steel through out the whole length of the knife. The ingredients of this steel are proudly etched on each blade. Wusthof not only uses the best materials to make a fine knife, but it is also crucial that each blade is precisely tempered. This tempering allows the knife to hold its edge for an extremely long time, yet can be maintained in your home kitchen with out the need to be sent away for maintenance. Located in the cutlery capital of the world, Solingen Germany, the wusthof factory history goes back as far as 1814 when the company was listed with the duchy of berg. To this day, the company remains family owned. Each step is performed to exacting standards by skilled German workers aided by the most modern, computer guided equipment. It is this balance of German technology and old world hand craftsmanship that is the secret of how each wüsthof knife is created. Known the world-over for it’s unique and uncompromising quality,

 "Supplier cancelled my order" 2009-01-28

I ordered the Wusthof Classic 7 piece knife block set for a Christmas gift. I paid for it with a credit card and received confirmation. I was then contacted with a phone call that the knives shouldn't have been listed on Amazon. A recall was issued for them as soon as they reached my destination. I never saw the Wusthof knives and block and was issued a credit. I feel this is a poor way to do business, but it was to my advantage because I found a better set for just a little bit more money.

"Do you really need the whole set?" 2007-03-20
By Christopher Hennes (Norman, OK)
I know, I know, people like sets. We like things that match. It looks classy on the counter, etc. And we want to own "the best" and show it off to our friends. But after three years, I only use two of these knives consistently -- the chef's knife and the paring knife. I love the Wüstof chef's knife - for the paring knife I am indifferent. So ultimately, I probably could have saved a lot of money buying a cheap bread knife and paring knife and just buying the Chef's knife from this set. Not to mention that Forschner (Victorinox) makes an excellent, much lower-priced chef's knife that has been very highly rated (higher than this chef's knife) by Cook's Illustrated. So while I love these knives, I am a bit embarrassed that I probably bought the set more for the "show off to friends" factor than a serious analysis of what I needed in a knife set.

Pros:

1) Solid construction

2) Holds edge well

3) Feels expensive

Cons:

1) Relatively heavy and not terribly maneuverable

2) I don't need all the knives they include - do you?

3) The block only has one full-width slot, so it is difficult to add another chef's knife or larger knife to the set

4) We're paying a lot for "forged" "full-tang" construction that doesn't really mean anything to a home cook making one or two meals per day

 "Really Worth It" 2005-06-15
By S. A. Johnson (Bay Area, California)
The saying, "You get what you pay for," is not always true but I have found that with kitchen items, it is usually right on, especially with knives. If you are not used to seeing the prices for higher end knives, they may shock you, especially when it is for an individual knife. With a set like this, not only do you save a lot of money over buying the pieces one at a time, but you also get a great starter set that will meet most all of your cutting needs in the kitchen.

We got our set of knives for our wedding and they have treated us well. The classic set feels great and well balanced in your hand. The handle is comfortable and I don't feel like anything is going to break as I put the knives to work.

I also use all the parts in this set. Every knife has a regular use, whether it is for cutting, chopping, slicing, paring, whatever. I use the sharpening iron regularly to keep the blades cutting well and the kitchen scissors are some of the best I've owned for a variety of tasks. The only drawback, and it is minor, is that the wooden block does not have slots for steak knives (probably since they don't come with the set).

They also are easy to clean and food doesn't seem to get too strong a hold on them.

And, probably best of all, the knives have a lifetime warranty. I know if anything happens to them, I can take them to just about any store that carries Wusthof and get a replacement without any problems.

So, without any hesitation, I really do recommend spending the extra money on a fantastic product that really will be used a lot and will last you a lifetime.

"Now it cuts like a knife...But it feels so right..." 2004-10-06
By Buys Too Much
These knives are superb! I am absolutely thrilled with my purchase. I purchased this set during an Amazon "Friday Sale" combined with a kitchen items promotion and ended up paying approximately 165 dollars!

These knives are flawless (both handle and blade)in their construction and razor sharp right out of the box. They practically "sing" when you brush your thumb against the blade.

I have never used "good" knives before, so i was amazed at how effortlessly the chef's knife cut through a potato! I barely applied any pressure and the knife just did all the work. I understand that is how good knives are supposed to be, but it was still pretty awesome to experience.

"Henckels Twin "Select" - NOT" 2008-12-18
By PSach (South)
I purchased this 7 pc Twin Select set when it was on Amazon for $299 thinking what a deal. When they arrived the knives were "dirty" and some had scratches. They were new - just grimy in an industrial sort of manner. Also, the handles have an ugly seam between the handle and the bolster? It totally destroys the smooth look.

The block was more poorly finished than knife sets that I have seen for a fraction of the price. Even at $299 these are ugly and heavy. I never used them so I can't comment on that aspect. Needless to say I returned them to Amazon and rec'vd. a full refund due to Amazon's excellent customer service.

I bought this set about 6 months ago and it was sharp and well balanced. Recently I notice that the blade was chipping off and started to get dull, I don't know if this is a flaw or time to get it resharpened. I took very good care of it and never put it in the dishwasher. Overall its a good knife that probably needs sharping done on it every 6 months.

"Perfect for people who want too many knives" 2001-08-16
By Michael J Edelman (Huntington Woods, MI USA)
Five stars for quality- and one for the concept.

One of the centerpieces of any real show-off kicthen is the knife block stuffed with gleaming stainless German knives, one for every conceivable purpose. And they all shine like the day they were purchased, because few, if any, of them ever get used.

How many knives do you really need? For most cooks it's one. Maybe two. A good chef's knife can do everything from slicing a roast to making radish flowers and everything in between. Add an inexpensive serrated knife for bread and tough-skinned vegetables, and you're on an equal footing with any professional chef. If you clean your own fish (which is unlikely, unless you also catch them), you need a filleting knife. And that's it.

So really, most of us need two knives. This set gives us five, plus a block and a sharpening steel. But for a fifth the cost, you cna buy a really nice chef's knife- with a 10" blade, rather than the 8" found in this set- as well as a serrated knife and a steel, and still have enough left over for a copy of How To Cook Everything and enough groceries to make a nice dinner.
