I'm sold on this concept. I bought this product recently to take care of a growing problem in my kitchen. I'm starting to gather an odd mix of cooking blades that defy the opening sizes of your typical knife block. :) All my favorite blades won't fit in one block, and I refuse to let them rattle around in a drawer! So I opted for the magnetic solution. This 20" strip is just big enough for my current assortment of blades, and holds on to them firmly. :) to be safe, I mounted it underneath my wall mounted pots and pans rack, out of easy falling and impaling range while I'm at the stove or counter. :P



I also have limited space in my kitchen. I don't have a small kitchen, but I do have limited counter space. I'm in the process of trying to free up the available space I do have, without resorting to drastic(expensive) measures like putting in a new counter. mounting stuff on the wall or on the insides of cabinet doors = win/win situation. :)

I bought 2 of these and have one in my kitchen for my knives and one in the garage for my tools. It holds all my screw drivers, pliers, wrenches, a huge hammer and various other tools. It's so convenient to just grab a tool off the magnet and use it. It also magnetizes the screw drivers which helps hold the screws to the driver! That's just an added plus, IMO. For the kitchen...there's no better way to store your knives. Talk about convenient! I also get compliments galore when people see it. They love my knife magnet and my spice jar magnets that are on the side of my fridge....they're very handy to grab when cooking. It holds all of my knives, 2 pair of kitchen shears and a Craftsman Multi-tool that comes in very handy in the kitchen. :)



If you're thinking about this magnet, BUY IT. You will LOVE it. I got rid of a huge knife block that was taking up counter space. These things are perfect. I'd love to have another one....if only I could find the wall space to hang it. I like the idea of a previous reviewer who hung it VERTICALLY.....great idea! I may be able to find wall space if it's hung that way instead of horizontally. ;)

I'm happy with the magnet. It works well and is sold for a very reasonable price. Plan to purchase hardware to secure it to the wall, though. The needed hardware will only cost a few pennies, but be aware that the included hardware is worthless.

As others have mentioned, the magnet in this holder is incredibly strong and would (I imagine) provide years of service; however, the frame and mounting hardware are not of a corresponding quality. I attempted to install this using the provided drywall screws and had just decided to find alternate (better) hardware when I accidentally knocked the bar from a shelf to the counter--a distance of less than a foot. That short fall damaged the bar beyond repair. The front grid bent in several places and due to the extremely soft nature of the material, I was unable to reshape it adequately enough to refit it to the bar. Based on the other reviews and the quality of the magnet, I'd guess this is a great piece that performs as expected...just treat it very, very carefully when installing and definitely avoid the included mounting hardware.

A fabulous addtion to my kitchen. I intend to order another for large utensils (spatula, tongs, etc.), maybe even one for the craft room to hold all the little tools that keep hiding on me. The magnet is just right, strong enough to hold securely, but not so strong I have to fight with it to retrieve a knife. Hmmmm...I wonder if my husband's workshop could use one or two.

After reading the reviews, I decided to buy this knife rack. I've had it for about a year now and I wasn't disappointed. It looks just as good as the first day it was first up on the wall. Admittedly, it was a bit tricky (but not frustrating) to put up, but I'm sure that's a user problem, and nothing more. I highly recommend it- it keeps my knives within easy reach, holds even my big and heavier knives and can fit even more than I thought on it, AND looks very "gourmet". This is a good product!

I like this knife holder because it saves counter space. My only problem with the unit is that the magnets are fairly weak and if you put heavy knifes it won't hold. It will slide down the side of your refigerator. I found a simple solution to the problem by using some duct tape just below the knife holder to keep it from sliding down.

No complaints here, really. Arrived in a timely manner in good condition; functions as promised. My only quibble arose when I was first loading the knives in the slots -- the whole thing slid down the side of my refrigerator a couple inches. This has not happened again under normal usage, so my slight nervousness about the effectiveness of the magnets is probably unwarranted.

The knife block is as described, and is a very clean and space efficient way to handle up to 6 knives.



Pros:



- All slots are large enough to hold wide-blade knifes like Santuko or Chef's knives. (Many larger blocks only have two or three large slots - I bought this one to replace such a block because I have three wide blade knives.)



- Clean, minimalist design. Quite attractive, if you like the picture, that's what you'll get.



- Strong rare earth magnets attach to appliances, and it comes with metal disks and flush mounting screws that you can attach to cabinets, etc. so you can magnetically attach it there.



Cons:



- Magnets are just strong enough to hold it when loaded with heavy knives, another magnet would allow it to be more secure and tip to more angles when fully loaded.



The unit I initially received had a defect, but the vendor ([...] ) made replacement completely pain-free. You absolutely could not ask for better customer service than I received. My replacement arrived today and is in place, saving counterspace in our small kitchen.

Very clean design but well thought out.



There are 2 strong magnets near the top of the block. They are slightly recessed so they don't actually make contact with whatever they are attached to. This is great to keep from scratching your refrigerator or whatever.



Since there are no magnets at the bottom, its very easy to remove. Simply lift from the bottom edge and it comes right off. A padded bar at the bottom also keeps the block level and offers protection from scratches as well.



This block is simple but a nice design and saves on counter space.
