Seki Magoroku are traditional Japanese knives which have been manufactured in a similar style or centuries.. There are now some European shapes to complement this line. This series catches the eye with its mirror-finished edge of high-quality steel, featuring Molybdenum/vanadium stainless steel blade with a hardness of 58 HRC. The handles feature a rich Bubinga wood handle in the traditional chestnut-shape. Over the years I've purchased a lot from Amazon, this knife set is one of my all time favorite buys.

I will not review the individual knives here, but to say that they are beautifully crafted, and very sharp. Check out the reviews on each of the individual knives for owner feedback. Some have European style blades (sharpened on 2 edges) some are Japanese with single edges. All are nicely balanced and made in Japan.



As for the set, consider the assortment. Many 9 piece sets give you an odd assortment of mostly small knives along with cheap scissors, an ugly block, and a throw away steel hone. This set, as the photo shows, has 7 well chosen knives, a beautifully finished bamboo block (the same one in the Shun sets) and a full size whetstone. So far as I can tell, the whetstone (KAI model AP-0305) is not otherwise available in the U.S., but it uses well chosen 400/1000 grit. Equivalent stones sell for about $60 on Amazon.



I have not owned them long enough to report on long term wear, they have wood handles so should be hand washed, but expect them to provide excellent service for many years.
